Safely dispose of household hazardous waste and unwanted/unneeded medications for FREE!
Bring Unwanted Medicines to the HHW event.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office will provide a free “take back” of unwanted medicines during HHW events as a safe way for residents to get rid of unwanted medications. Unfortunately, no needles, sharps, or liquids will be accepted.
For Chatham County residents

No decal is required, but you'll need a current NC drivers license

HHW is only for households; no hazardous waste from businesses will be accepted

HHW events are a way for residents to dispose of hazardous materials safely.
What Household Hazardous Wastes can you take back?
The county accepts such items as paints, solvents, stains, bleach, aerosols, cleaners, pesticides, brake fluid, fluorescent light bulbs, propane tanks, etc.
